Why Travel Needs Black And Brown Faces
I was compelled to start this blog for two reasons:
1) After coming back from South East Asia reality hit and I was sat in a job interview. One of the interviewers asked about my travels abroad as well as talking about plans for her own backpacking trip to Cambodia/ Vietnam the following summer. She was black. Time wasn't on our side so I was unable to inform her of what I knew of Cambodia. She asked if I had a blog - I didn't and I really regretted not having one.
2) Seeing two black men in their early twenties in a London Underground station with backpacks on. I approached them and we spoke for a bit, they told me they were off to Thailand. Seeing black male travellers while in Asia/Australia was non existent so I felt really excited seeing these two young men on home soil setting off. Their Shaded Road began and mine did too with this blog. Where will yours begin.
3) And finally, I know the title says of this short article says 'black travellers' but this blog is for all travellers of an ethnic background. YOU are needed. I can count on the one hand the the number of ethnic backpackers I came across. Lets change this so we become the norm.
Are you seeing more ethnic travellers on the road- when will it become the norm? Comment below
